What to do on the island of Panarea
This rustic natural refuge offers the best of both worlds. Villa Isolana is less than 1 mile upward, on the Panarea's one paved roadnot far from the one beach, "La Spiaggetta," the perfect destination for scuba diving and snorkeling. The nearest boat and private helicopter rental is under a mile away. Reachable by hydrofoil: Reggio di Calabria airport (2 hours), Milazzo (1 1/2 hours), Lipari (30 minutes). Residents walk or circulate via electric golf carts (taxis or private). To mingle with the life off-shore, rent a boat and explore the crystal-clear water, rocky islets, and other Aeolian Islands. During the summer months, the 200-strong population of Panarea soars with visitors from the mainland and abroad. By day, revel in nature. By night, rub elbows with jet-setters from around the worldat one of the night clubs or hot spots on the Island.
